Please view the latest agriculture webinar, "ArcGIS Analytics for Agriculture" which was recorded on March 25, 2021.

It features the analytic capabilities of ArcGIS to identify and manage climate risk in order to increase overall crop productivity and demonstrates:

  • How to access ready to use agriculture data for analysis from Esri’s ArcGIS Living Atlas
  • How to use interactive & exploratory modeling to evaluate ‘risk’ for crop production
  • Use of environmental data to build a ‘risk score’ to identify cropland at the greatest risk

Select Questions and Answers from the Live Session.

  • What's the link to Living Atlas?
  • I have ArcGIS Desktop 10.8.1. Is the ArcGIS Pro version described in the webinar an upgrade to my program?
    • If you are on maintenance, no, Pro is included. Otherwise, you would need to upgrade.
  • Can the suitability modeler incorporate additional functions? For example, adding weight to proximity to features (e.g. distance to stream), eliminating parcels of a certain size, or live-generating a cost-surface based on proximity?
    • Yes, the Suitability Modeler allows you to explore the model through queries by creating query expressions. Additionally, changing the weight of model inputs can be carried out via the suitability tab of the Suitability Modeler.
  • Is it possible to write plugins for ArcGIS? We develop precision ag platform and would like to distribute our analytics via esri/arcgis.
    • ArcGIS and specifically ArcGIS Pro, can be extended using the ArcGIS Pro SDK for Microsoft .NET. You can develop add-ins and solution configurations to create a custom Pro UI and user experience for your organization or users. Please reach out to us directly and we can provide you more information on how to proceed.
  • Is the Agriculture indicator available for public-use?
    • The template is publicly available via the Living Atlas however what we illustrated during the webinar was a configuration specific to various agriculture specific parameters. As such, you can download the template and begin to configure your own agriculture indicators.
  • Is there a planned release of ready-to-use deep learning packages to detect different crop types from sentinel images or higher resolution? E.g., the packages that have been recently released on Landsat landcover classification.
    • We are constantly looking for opportunities to develop new deep learning packages and those efforts are very dependent on the availability of imagery and training data to create the models. As such we are always looking for opportunities to work with users who would be willing to collaborate by sharing relevant data. Please reach out to etakow@esri.com if you would like to pursue the development of different crop detection models.
  • There is institutional data such as soil type, weather data, drainage, but what about standardizing data from the various equipment companies. Is there an effort to make that happen?
    • That's an effort that's being tackled by several 3rd parties and Esri partners. We also see this as a necessity within the industry however we are equipment agnostic and continue to work with our various partners to make sure the ArcGIS system can ingest data from the various equipment manufacturers. Please contact etakow@esri.com to follow up.
  • Is there somewhere to download SSURGO data by an area of interest (AOI), like a custom polygon? There are times when my data crosses 2 basins and the SSURGO data from those 2 basins doesn't line up or match.
    • You can download SSURGO data from the following url:https://esri.maps.arcgis.com/apps/View/index.html?appid=cdc49bd63ea54dd2977f3f2853e07fff#! This application provides access to ready-to-use map packages with relevant soil data derived from the SSURGO dataset. You simply navigate to your study area and click the map. A pop-up window will open with a download option and the map package will be copied to your computer which is accessible via ArcGIS Pro.
  • 什么样的rcGIS spatial analysis are applicable in small research experiment plots? Assuming the resolution will slow down with the size of grid, I was wondering about what types of questions can be answered reliably for small research plots (say 15X30 ft) using ArcGIS?
    • ArcGIS supports spatial analysis at various spatial scales. As such the availability and resolution of your data will determine the types of analysis you can accomplish.
  • Can we bring our own property data into a Living Atlas app to further customize?
    • Several of the applications designed and developed by the Living Atlas team can be downloaded and configured with your own data simply by accessing the source code from the appropriate GitHub. You simply need to Fork and then clone the repo once you have selected the download option from the Living Atlas website.
  • What do you need to subscribe to obtain ArcGIS Velocity?
    • ArcGIS Velocity is an add-on capability of ArcGIS Online, and is available in three subscription levels—Standard, Advanced, and Dedicated. The different licensing levels support different levels of data processing speed, storage, and computation. As a capability of ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Velocity is available to any user of type Creator or higher. Usage/Access of Velocity is controlled through privileges provisioned by the Administrator of the ArcGIS Online organizational account.
  • Can we publish the Suitability analysis which Elvis showed as a Geoprocessing Service to ArcGIS Server?
    • Yes. The Suitability Modeler in ArcGIS Pro consist of a number of Geoprocessing tools which can be strung together as a model. As such you can consequently publish the model as Geoprocessing Service.
  • I need to create a web-based suitability model and found the suitability modeler widget, but it is limited to 15 raster layers. I need 21 layers. Is this possible to add 21 layers online, maybe by editing the source code?
    • I believe you are referring to the Suitability Modeler widget in Web App Builder which indeed has a limitation of 15 rasters.
  • Is the DTN data a subscription to DTN or something in Living Atlas?
    • Access to DTN data is made available by subscribing directly to DTN. Through our strategic partnership with DTN you can access a fully supported set of weather data services for use within your ArcGIS Organization by searching the ArcGIS Market place.
  • May I ask where to find the agricultural indicator (e.g. GDD) that was just shown?
    • The agriculture indicators as shown during the webinar is an Experience Builder template. This is a new way of creating web experiences with a mobile-adaptive design for building compelling web applications. The GDD card is pointing to feature service where we are simply accumulating GDD daily for the growing season.
